World’s Dirtiest Man’ dies at 94

An Iranian man who hadn’t bathed in over 60 years passed on Sunday at 94, as per reports.

The man was famous to his community as Amou haji or Uncle haji, an Iranian term for tenderness for an older person. Most notably, he became referred to as “the world’s dirtiest man” for choosing to not bath for 6 decades – fearing he would get sick if he ever used “soap and water,” according to IRNA news organization, via AFP. As per reports, haji cited “emotional setbacks in his youth” as a primary reason for not bathing.


Haji, in the small Iranian city of Dejgah and was from the southern province of Fars, bathed for the first time many months back, according to IRNA, via BBC.He ultimately gave in, and “for the time, villagers had taken him to a washroom to clean,” according to Telegraph. “Not long when, he fell unwell and ultimately, on Sunday… he surrendered his life.”

IRNA also reported that years of not bathing left Haji with skin coated in “soot and pus.” He was seen in the news smoking multiple cigarettes over the years.

In 2014, Haji told The Tehran Times his favorite meal was a porcupine, which he kept between a hole in the ground and a brick shack built by local people. Haji did not have any known relatives, though the local people were taken care of him.

Haji is not survived by any known family member, however, he was beloved within the village, and a few even reportedly built him a cinderblock hut to sleep in.

His fame spread further after he became a web sensation for smoking a modest bunch of cigarettes all at once. He would likewise utilize a metal pipes object to smoke animal waste, The Telegraph added.

It was reported that he would eat spoiled porcupine roadkill, and he drank five liters of water daily from a dirty bucket, per the report.!

Doctors from Tehran supposedly examined him recently, and he was deemed healthy. His nails gave off an impression of being dark as he grasped a rusted cup and gazed off-camera.
